Why are Cyclists & Riverside Neighbourhood battling each other?

PRESS RELEASE

Riverside Neighbourhood Inc., a group of citizens concerned about the long term viability of Riverside Drive as a neighbourhood and scenic parkway, has a date in Divisional Court on November 23, 2009.

The November 23 court date set for the hearing of the Riverside Drive legal issues has been postponed on consent of the parties.

The Court will hear arguments from both the City of Windsor and Riverside Neighbourhood Inc. which is represented by noted environmental lawyer, Eric Gillespie of Toronto.

The hearing in London will determine the validity of the environmental assessment adopted by the city in their effort to transform Riverside Drive from a scenic parkway into a traffic oriented "urban highway."

We will post updates as they become available

SaveYourdrive.com is the official web site of Riverside residents concerned about the City of Windsor's Riverside Drive Vista Improvement project.

We hope this web site will help educate other Riverside residents as well as any interested City of Windsor residents about the proposed changes to Riverside Drive and why we are so concerned.

Values and Solutions

Supporters of Save Our Scenic Drive's believe in:

  1. Traffic safety
  2. Preservation of the concept of a Scenic Drive (passive design, slower traffic speed and volume, mature tree canopy, etc.)
  3. Openness to a solution that accommodates both cycling and vehicles, while satisfying resident concerns
  4. Additional meaningful traffic calming measures of 400 vph and reduction of speed of 40/50 kpm
